About

The earliest story I remember writing was in Grade 3. I had to put together a picture book, with illustrations and everything. All I remember about the story was that it incorporated a dragon, a stove and a wooden box. Yeah...I don't know, either.

It's funny that, today, I'm still doing those two things I love: writing and drawing.

I love to write. I find it hard to believe that until high school, I never thought about becoming a writer. Today, it's one of the things I'm most proud of. I started off with fan-fiction, and then I branched off with my own stories. I want to publish a novel. I think I'll get there.

I've also loved drawing since I was young. I'd draw my favourite comic book heroes, and then Star Wars characters, and then I started drawing my own characters. I tried doing comics for a short time. Now, my illustrations almost always mesh with my writing in some way.

I've been a gamer since my wee years, too. RPGs made an impression on me as a way to immerse myself in a fictional world and identify with its characters. Maybe I'm just getting curmudgeonly, but the games that tell stories are the best ones. Old school RPGs like Final Fantasy VI, System Shock 2, and Morrowind...these are a few of my favourites.

Speaking of games...if you didn't know, I recently relapsed into Magic: The Gathering. I have a separate blog devoted to that subject. I collect and play, and I alter cards with acrylic paint as well. See, it's that whole meshing thing again. Parts of me just bleed into each other.

So, if you're wondering about the person behind the blog, I hope this gives you a little more insight.

And Derfington? I just thought it was a funny name to use.
